Pollen Sonata Teaser

A small teaser video for a Wii prototype by a Danish indie team seeking a publisher. I can’t find any other information about the company or the game. The obvious comparison for me is to Cloud… and also Pilotwings! But it’s hard to tell what there is to do other than float and roll around (the big insect at the end was cool, though).

It appears the pollen needs to go in the flower!

  • A Pony Mouse

Additionally I think if there’s one thing the Wii needs it’s a Pilotwings. A game to relax, fly.

  • ZombiePixel

Sorry, but it looks like the gaming equivalent of huffing paint fumes from a bag.

  • Derek

    Really, that awesome?

  • huh

it seems about exciting as aquaria.

I want a game where you control an army of tiny robot insects fighting another army of tiny robot insects in some dude’s house. Like Sim Ant but with more 3D explosions and pyew pyew lasers and tiny robot bee swarms.

A game about controlling pollen …
Weird but real nice, wonder why you guys always need to bring that kind of game down …
And “huh”, was that a positive or a negative comparison? ‘Cause Aquaria will be godly …

I think he’s just trying to be a dick. :)

  • Underwhelmed

If the goal is to get the pollen in the flower, this looks like it may be one of the most frustrating “land the pollen in the flower” games ever.

Also, I agree with Radix, where are my pyew pyew lasers and cockroaches armed with howitzers?

    Videogames :(

    I think it looks awesome!

I gave the bug ary idea some more thought. Might as well post here just to get it off my chest:

-The yard is divided into sectors and the house into rooms, and you need to beat the enemy army out of each sector/room just like SimAnt.
-Unlike SimAnt, each sector/room has a hidden ‘bodypart data’ item.
-Your factory-queen can assemble robobugs using three distinct bodypart data items, which give that bug different abilities.
-The HEAD part may have a weapon (such as mandibles, sawblades or acid) but primarily gives you a way to differentiate between troops when giving orders (all cockroach heads, go to this waypoint; all red ant heads, attack this barrier).
-The THORAX part defines the ‘look’ of the bug, including body type, legs and any wings, and any special abilities. For example a beetle thorax might be armoured, and a moth thorax can not only fly but is also large enough to carry several smaller insects for air assaults.
-The ABDOMEN part supplies either a weapon or a special ability. For example spider abdomens can weave terrain-crossing webs, and bee abdomens have a laser stinger.
-Because the bodypart data is hidden they may require Pikmin-like command of units with different abilities in your army to aquire. As you begin the game with just a basic ant army, some parts may be inaccessible until the right parts are found in other sectors.

-Terrain is destructible, leaving the player with a DIFFICULT MORAL DECISION regarding whether or not to crush the enemy army with some dude’s brand new plasma TV.

Huh. Thanks for ‘fixing’ my formatting, blog software.

  • BeamSplashX

Make it now, Radix. Before the apocalypse.

  • tara

    the music is exceptional :)

  • raigan

why the hell do they waste the first half of the movie with non-game-related blahblahblah??

There’s actually an official website for Pollen Sonata with alot more details about the premise of the game and all. You can also download a PC demo (it requires Half Life 2 and Steam). Haven’t tried it yet but I think the concept sounds very promising and the world seems kinda Ico-ish beautiful. But of course it needs more work. This demo is the result after one month in development. Sadly the Danish Team do not have more funds to continue working on the game at the time being…

Funds? Modding only really requires sweat equity. Hell, coding from scratch really only requires sweat equity.
