Return of Egypt

Return of Egypt

Return of Egypt is a pretty competent Castlevania: Symphony of the Night clone that has you playing as frickin’ Moses! I’m not really clear on the story, but who cares. You’re Moses, and you’re back to kick some undead Egyptian ass. Just like in the Bible.

The author definitely intended this one to be played with a gamepad, and some of the special moves are tricky to pull off on a keyboard. Gamepad is the default control scheme, too, so hit F4 to change your control if you need to. Spacebar reveals the map.

EDIT: Changed the link the Acid Play, since people were having problems with the Underdogs.

Woo! For once I’m ahead of the curve in featuring something before TIGsource!

  • BigbossSNK

Not so fast, dude. Return of Egypt has already been posted in the forums.
Nobody can outcurve the TIGsource collective.
    Bwa-ha,
    bwahahahahaha.

I didn’t mind not understanding the dialogue before, but I have the feeling I was supposed to find out where to stick this item then. I’m carrying around a block of some description and have no idea where to put it. Hmm…

Fun game though, wish it had more music. It stops and starts as you enter different areas where it would’ve been perfect to have had a new track. But what the hell, I’m playing Castlevania as Moses!

Sorry to spoil your fun but it’s not Moses at all. Take a look at the badly translated website.

The only things I was able to decipher, back when I played it some years ago, is that the old man is called Ranya Gadesh, the bad dude is Gadas, and the man in white clothes, apparently a good guy, is Rashid. When you meet Anubis, he says something like “It’s a long time, Gadesh, 100 years have passed…”

However, though a bit short I loved the graphics and the bosses, nasty elaborations of some Egyptian gods.

The author should be the same of the Mogura shooters (with a third in development): the official site of RoE disappeared in August 2004, the day after the Krobon Station site opened, and the author e-mail was the same.

Ah, shame. Playing as Moses would’ve been cooler, but nevermind. The final fight was a little crazy, I seem to just rely on jumping around like a mad-man (Moses or not, that kind of athleticism for a 128-year old is impressive) and using major attacking spells for invincibility and extra damage.

Did anyone happen to find that final magic attack? Must be fairly well hidden, or I must be quite blind, but then in this game I’m technically 128 years old and was tired from beating anubis to death with my walking stick, cut me some slack alright? Sheesh…

Man, I played this years ago – great to see it up on TIGSource (I’d forgotten about it)

    When though, BigbossSNK? WHEN?!

  • someloser

Any better mirrors? Both HotU and the official site aren’t working for me, I just wait for them and nothing happens.

  • underwhelmed

Yeah crap. HotU is more or less dead these days, I really wish there was a better mirror listed. Honestly nothing on HotU is worth listing these days since most of the times the links don’t work.

  • underwhelmed

Umm yeah speaking of mirrors i should have listed one shouldn’t have I. Try http://www.acid-play.com/download/return-of-egypt/ it was the first one I found doing a google search and it is slow, but it seems to work so there you go.

DrD, the original post is dated May 20, 2007, 03:15:08 pm.
We are the TIGsource. Resistance is futile. With the assimilation of the PSP we have become omnicongitive.
(Seriously, though, I don’t follow your work so if you had reviewed/ referenced Return of Egypt earlier than that, more power to ya, man)

he might not be moses but he’s still an old dude kicking ass – how many other games can say that? pac-man, new mgs…

  • Derek

I’m still going to pretend it’s Moses. :(

  • crackers

He will always be Moses to me.

Now I am off to part some skulls with my magic cane.

  • Advenith

I remember this not working on my PC way back. Of course, now that I have my new laptop, I’m gonna kick some Ramses ass.

  • Doron

R: Turn off your speakers. Problem solved :D
