Driftmoon

After 7 years of development, Ville and Anne Mönkkönen have released Driftmoon, an adventure/role-playing game set in a charming and colorful fantasy world. The game comes with development tools that you can use to create and share mods. Also, a large demo is available to try out and includes the full editor.

You might remember Ville as the creator of the survival game Notrium from 2003.

This actually looks really cool from the trailer. Downloading the demo now.

This looks fun. But I’m not a fan of the art direction, this looks like it was made in the 90s

Notrium really, really wanted to be fun, but its balance was bizarre. There were lots of complex, expensive things to craft that turned out to be effectively useless. You could build laser turrets to defend your camp, except that the only reason to have a “camp” is to stash all the stuff you can’t carry in one place, and nobody will bother it while you’re away. You can go through a complex process that involves killing a monster alien queen to acquire a pet alien of your very own, but it’s no stronger or tougher than the basic mook aliens you kill by the dozens and doesn’t return if killed.

Also, it’s a “wilderness survival” game where you don’t have to sleep. That alone would’ve made the turrets useful, but no.

Anyway,I hope Driftmoon lives up to Notrium’s promise, is what I’m saying.

All I can say is, 7 years? That’s a labor of love. Nice work.

This looks nice and I’m trying the demo for sure

I’ve downloaded the demo (which offers quite some content) and I’ve finished it without stop playing it. I can tell you one thing – what the graphics lacks, gameplay gets. You’ll hardly get bored because there’s always something to do including side quests and misteries around the world. Storyline is also interesting (maybe too much text for my opinion).

Even if you dislike what you see, give it a try, you won’t be sorry.

I’ve been playing this nearly nonstop. Talk about an engrossing game. So many things to find. Such a charming and responsive world. Honestly, I’m eschewing playing some other triple-A titles until I’m done with this.
